Tour day-by-day

  • Southern Ocean Lodge - Private Tour

    Day 1: North Coast and Seal Bay. Upon arrival into Kingscote mid-morning, the guide provides an introduction to the private island adventure. The day begins with exploration of Kangaroo Island's prime farming regions, where, depending on the season, sheep, cattle, and various grains can be observed amid the island's mix of natural and productive landscapes.

    At Lathami Conservation Park, a guided bush walk reveals local wildlife, with interpretation of animal sounds, tracks, and markings. Wallabies unique to the island can be seen, alongside distinctive Australian birds, plants, and animals.

    Next, visit Stokes Bay, known for its hidden beach and local fishing spots. A barbecue lunch is served at a private bush camp on the "Ellamatta" sheep stud, featuring King George whiting, grilled halloumi, fresh salads, and local wines.

    Continue to Seal Bay for a private tour of the Australian Sea-lion colony, observing sea lions resting and interacting, including pups, young males, and dominant bulls. The day concludes with travel west to the much-anticipated arrival at Southern Ocean Lodge.

    Day 2: Southern Ocean Lodge. Relax and enjoy Southern Ocean Lodge. Recommended activities include a spa treatment, a guided clifftop walk, and a leisurely afternoon observing the Southern Ocean swells. One of the lodge's signature experiences is the Southern Sundowners, offering a range of premium beverages and snacks while watching Kangaroo Island kangaroos grazing in the late afternoon sun. Another highlight is the evening Nocturnal Tour, providing opportunities to observe more of Kangaroo Island's wildlife as it becomes active.

    Day 3: West Coast and North Coast. Upon checkout, depart via the North Coast, passing through Flinders Chase National Park. For those who joined Southern Ocean Lodge's included Wonders of Kangaroo Island tour during the stay, the itinerary is amended accordingly.

    Visit Remarkable Rocks, a massive natural sculpture perched on a granite dome plunging into the ocean, then continue to Admirals Arch, a coastal grotto home to a large colony of long-nosed fur seals swimming through crashing waves. Break for an elegant picnic lunch on a spectacular clifftop, featuring marinated poached chicken, fresh salads, cheeses, and accompanied by local wines, beer, soft drinks, and spring water.

    After lunch, exit the National Park and visit local woodturner Jonny Gloyne, exploring a beautiful range of handmade wood products, including his renowned pepper grinders. En route to the airport, if time permits, enjoy a departure drink, choosing from premium wines at Islander Estate Vineyards or a gin flight at Kangaroo Island Distillery, Australia's first contemporary gin producer.

    Fly from Kingscote to Adelaide, and upon arrival, transfer by private vehicle to The Louise in the Barossa.

  • Barossa - The Louise

    Day 4: Barossa. The Louise Barossa is a luxurious retreat located in the heart of South Australia's renowned Barossa Valley wine region.   • Arkaba Conservancy

    Day 5-7: Arkaba Conservancy. Following a transfer from the Barossa, arrival is at the 60,000-acre Arkaba Conservancy, set amidst ancient mountain ranges. A three-night stay is centered on wildlife conservation and biodiversity, with a core focus on supporting the mission to restore the property's natural heritage through immersive activities.

    Thrilling expeditions, like the Ridge-top Safari Drive and Dundee Track, are conducted in open-top 4WD vehicles. These drives provide crucial wildlife viewing across diverse habitats, specifically aiming to spot species of conservation interest. Highlights include viewing Common Wallaroos on rocky outcrops and the chance to encounter colonies of the endangered Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby on the Elder Range.

  • Cradle Mountain - Private Tour

    Day 8. Arkaba to Launceston. Take a morning charter flight to Adelaide, then onwards to Launceston. Meet the guide at noon at Launceston Airport to begin the journey to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Travel through lush rolling farm pastures before entering the alpine bush, with an introduction to this fascinating alpine environment. Check in to lodge-style accommodation to relax and unwind.

    Day 9. Cradle Mountain National Park. On a clear day, the rugged grandeur of Cradle Mountain is reflected in the tranquil waters of Dove Lake, or its craggy peaks may appear dramatically through swirling mist. A bushwalk in the National Park along the Dove Lake Circuit (2.5 hrs) offers immersion in this majestic setting, with interpretation of native flora and fauna. Highlights include the ballroom forest and lakeside beaches.

    In the afternoon, a scenic helicopter flight provides a unique perspective of Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake, showcasing breathtaking views of Tasmania's rare natural treasures and the beauty of this ancient landscape. The day concludes with a hosted cheese tasting at the lodge before dinner.

  • Saffire Freycinet

    Day 10: Freycinet Peninsula. After breakfast, depart Cradle Valley for the journey to Launceston. Explore Launceston with an introduction to the city before visiting the scenic Cataract Gorge, where the South Esk River flows through sheer rocky cliffs. Landscaped gardens evoke the genteel charm of the Victorian era.

    Lunch is served at an award-winning vineyard in the Tamar Valley before continuing to Tasmania's East Coast, known for its exceptional beauty, pristine white sandy beaches, and granite coastline. The award-winning Saffire Luxury Lodge is located in the heart of Great Oyster Bay, set against the imposing backdrop of the Hazards granite mountain range. Guests can relax and enjoy the views or unwind with a treatment at the Saffire Day Spa.

    Day 11: Freycinet Peninsula. Saffire offers a range of activities, including the Tasmanian Devil experience, local wine tours, sightseeing, guided walks, kayaking, and mountain biking, as well as guided exploration of Freycinet National Park. Stroll along Friendly Beaches, where white sand meets the striking orange rocks of the coast, or walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout for exceptional views across the Freycinet Peninsula. Visits may also include Cape Tourville Lighthouse.

    A guided tour to a local working oyster farm provides the opportunity to don waders and sample freshly shucked Freycinet Pacific oysters in a scenic setting.

  • East & South Coast - Private Tour

    Day 12: East Coast. Travel along the East Coast, passing the seaside villages of Swansea, Triabunna, and Orford, en route to the Coal River Valley. Visit the charming village of Richmond, noted for its preserved colonial architecture.

    Lunch is served at a local vineyard before a visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where Tasmanian Devils and other native animals can be observed up close during a private behind-the-scenes tour. Continue to Hobart for an introduction to Tasmania's capital city. The vibrant waterfront at Salamanca Place, with its Georgian sandstone buildings, was once the hub of a thriving whaling industry.

    Day 13: Tasman Peninsula Scenic Flight. Begin the adventure from Cambridge with a scenic helicopter flight along Tasmania's Southeast Coast, offering views of Hobart's southern beaches and Storm Bay extending toward the Southern Ocean. Continue the flight to Bangor Vineyard Shed, where the pilot and host collect a picnic hamper.

    The flight proceeds over Bangor farm to a private, secluded location at Two Mile Beach. The sea air complements the fine wine and seasonal Tasmanian delicacies in the picnic hamper. Beachcombing offers opportunities to discover marine treasures, and weather permitting, swimming in the ocean is possible. The only other inhabitants of Two Mile Beach are local wallabies, wombats, birds, dolphins, and occasionally passing whales.

    Day 14: Mt Wellington. The day begins with an ascent of Mt Wellington/ Kunanyi, providing a beautifully imposing backdrop to the city of Hobart. On the climb to the 1270m peak, pass through various ecosystems until finally reaching an alpine environment. Here (weather permitting), enjoy panoramic views of the city, river and beyond. After lunch, continue to Hobart Airport for the onward journey.
